For quite sometime, we have been hearing about the name Squids. What are Squids actually ? Lets see an in depth analysis about this mysterious creature.

They are Giant Mollusks that are carnivorous and have a torpedo shaped body. It has 5 pairs of arms, huge eyes, might even be 18" end to end. They mainly eat fishes, and at times, smaller Squids. Squids have also been reported to have attacked Whales, but is said to have emerged victorious only in a couple of occassions.

Squids have always eluded humans who went to study about them in their environment. But once in a bizzare picture of a squid, which is reported to have been atleast 40 feet, was seen moving slowly. It is usually a slow mover, passive or active and is said to be very aggressive. Its tentacles are said to be very dangerous and once it hooks onto a prey, it releases some kind of a chemical that seems to irritate the prey.

It has always been compared with Octopus but in many ways is different, huge in size and is many a time more aggressive than the octopus.

There seems to be no signs of improvement. It all depends on US to steady the sinking ship. With the slump in the economies everywhere, only India and China seem to have a breather. Let's hope all this ends and the people with no jobs get back their jobs.

Root cause to this cannot be identified nor can any country be pointed to. So what is the possible solution ? Sitting and talking to these barbarians, or fighting it the way they do it ? It is a question which probably no one has an answer. Will terrorism die on its own in the future ? I have posted more questions than giving a possible solution. Having taken 619 wickets in test match to become the third highest wicket taker in tests, kumble (a fighter) is playing his last test match today in Ferozshah Kotla, his favorite ground where he holds many records. It's definitely a miss for India to find a substitute for him. Hope Amit Mishra can fill his space and do wonders as he did in his early days... No specific reason can be pointed towards his retirement though... But he is a true champion, no wonder.

The recent nuclear deal between US and India is actually very unclear. The sources close to USA say that the deal could be terminated if India tests missiles.

'If India tests any nuclear missiles, then we have a right to react' - says the Hyde Act.

But the Indian Government says that there is nothing like that. It's really playing on the minds of us indians. Some accuse us of having mortgaged the Indian sovereignity. What's actually there in the deal, god only knows. At the end of the day, hope this deal helps India enter into the elite club of the countries using clean ource of energy.

Recently, a camel was bought by the crown prince of Dubai for a whopping $2.7m in a desert festival in Abu Dhabi. Sheik Hamdan, th son of Dubai ruler Sheik Mohammed, bought 16 camels for $4.5m during a camel beauty pageant in a desert carnival. Amongst this deal, a camel alone was bought for $2.7m. Camels were registered under different categories like age, skin and texture.

Five judges assessed these camels on the whole seperately. The owners of the winning camels shared $2m amongst them and each received a car too. The days of a million dollar baby are gone as the million dollar camel has arrived now !!!

3G iPhone ???

MS has also said that IE 8 would operate on the currently defines web standards and would not be built based on the IE 7 platform. BlueGene has an inbuilt interface of around 128k processors and is capable of processing 360 TeraFLOPS per second. The best part is that, all these operations happen at the cost of 1 watt. All supercomputers will be able to process a minimum of 1 TeraFLOP. IBM has now formed a research team that is on the verge of building a super computer that would be able to process 100 TeraFLOPS.

The gravitational pull of these areas are so high that nothing can escape out of it, not even light. These areas are called as Black holes or Collapsars.

A german astronomer predicted the existence of Black holes and he theoretically proved that black holes are the end results of all stars which have a mass greater than the sun. The black holes are the smallest and the most dense objects in the universe.

Scientists are still looking for the evidence of a real Black hole in the Universe. In the year 1974, a black hole Cygnus X-1 was discovered based on which they came to many other conclusions.

The Triangle Problem

Though most of the things can be given a convincing answer, most others cannot be solved and still remaina puzzle. One such thing is the Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle. It is a triangular region in the Atlantic Ocean, off the south east US. In this area, several ships and aircraftshasvanished without leaving a trace. The area is bounded by Florida, Puerto Rica and Bermuda. Thetriangle extends from 25 to 40 N latitude and 55 to 85 W longitude, covering a total area of 3,900,000 sq.Km

Several planes, ships have never been spared pnce they entered this territory. On Dec.5th, 1945,5 US torpedo bombers disappeared on the thin air after they heard some bizzare radio signals. A Seaplane sent to investigate this also vanished. A recent case of this kind was the loss of a US nuclearsubmarine in 1968. From there onwards, everyone became more conscious and named it a Deadly triangle.

There were many attempts to unravel this mystery, but no one could possibly come out with a concrete solution. Some said that the heavy winds, and air currents were cause of this deadly act, where assome came up with the idea that there could be heavy Magnetic Fields that blocked the radio signals.But till date, no convincing answer has beem given on this.

LCD or Plasma ???

Television is one sector that has off late seen too much advancement that too in a very short span of 15 years. Technology has been advancing from CRT tubes to LCD to Plasma and now the latest being Organic LED display. So the customers have been subjected to lot of confusion. Let me try to clear that doubt as to which is the best, LCD or Plasma ?

Size of the Screen :
Plasma - from 32" till 63"
LCD - from 16" till 45"

Viewing Angle :
Plasma - till 160˚
LCD - till 175˚

Weight :
Plasma - Fairly heavy and need support to mount.
LCD - Weigh less and are portable.

In addition to this, Plasma Tv is 3" thick whereas LCDs are just 2" on less thick. Also Plasmas consume more power that LCDs. But when the Clarity is taken into consideration, Plasma excels LCD by a huge margin. Also the response time on case of plasma is 1 ms(milli second) only. Hence, now it is upto you to decidee between Plasma and LCD. But one thing is for sure, Plasma is very costlier than LCD. So after thorough analysis, LCD has a slight edge over plasma but with a slight compromise in clarity.

We have for quite sometime been hearing about the word 'recession'. What actually is it, what effects will it have on the country and on other countries ? Let's see in detail.

A country is said to be in recession when the GDP of two or more consecutive quarters is negative. However the effects of the recession will be felt well in advance, might be several quarters before. For example, the symptoms of a recession might be the pop up of unemployment, businesses coming to a halt, a stock market crash and many more.

When there comes a problem of recession in a country, the associated countries also suffer a setback. This can be illustrated with an example. The causes of a possible recession might be inflation, and other economy related problems.

Now, recession is slowly creeping into US. Hence, countries like India, Pakistan that are extensively dependant on US will surely suffer a setback. As a result of recession, the economy begins to crumble. The only and the effective solution could probably be the cut in the Interest Rates which is what the Federal Bank has done now. As a result of this, US is now showing some signs of recovery.

Tigers are one of the most beautiful land animals today on earth. But will they continue to be admired the most is the question, for they are being hunted down so rapidly that they may not be roaming on the earth in the next decade. To put it in simple words, tigers are on the verge of extinction. Their numbers are estimated to be around 6500 and this number is reducing at an alarming rate.

There existed 8 species of tigers of which only 5 species exist at present. The 2 possible threats for their existence might be

. Poaching
. Loss of Habitat

Poachers hunt them for their skin, bones etc. and other is the ever increasing human population and lack of space to live.

Control Measures :

The effective ways are, implementing tough laws and enforcing penalties for those who break laws. Active campaigns, petitions, awareness among people, activists are the ones that can put a halt at this inhuman activity. If we do not stop this, then we wont have any tigers left to show the future generation that such an animal once roamed the Earth.

'VJM01' Unleashed

It was a much awaited Thursday evening for it was the day where the Force India was to unveil it's car. Called 'VJM01', the team announced the car in colours of white, gold and tungsten at the ceremony. This is regarded by many as a way of showing what potential India has.

The car was just an improved version of the 2007 Spyker. 'VJM01' is also known to be called the 'Silver Arrow' is expected to give a decent fight in the competitive motor racing season which starts in February end.

The launching ceremony was accompanied by the team drivers Giancarlo Fisichella, Vintantonio Liuzzi, and Adrian Sutil. The VJM01's first race is expected to be from the Circuit De Catalunya (Barcelona) which is slated to be on February 25.

Let's hope for the best. It would be really nice if Force India team could win atleast one race, but expecting too much, so early is mere foolishness as they themselves have said that they hope to start winning races from 2010.. A billion people stand with Force India !!!

On monday, Hewlett Packard unveiled its 2 laser printers for shared corporate sector. These printers have in them many new web-enabled features that are being collectively called as Print 2 - a reflection of Web 2.0

The P1505 series Laserjet prints the first print out in less than 6.5 seconds to give an overall average of 24 prints per minute. Different models cost 9,999 and 14,999 - the latter one is compatible with Linux too !

The M2727 series is a multi-functional printer-scan-fax copy machine that allows one to directly e-mail the scanned document. These models are priced at 45,000 and 55,000. A 'Smart' cartridge is also provided to monitor and optimize the toner usage in both these models.

The new web based features include downloadable 'universal' drivers for a whole class of printers, free online tools and other accessories to help small enterprises create their own professional documents and 'Smart Web Printing' software that makes printing web pages more effecient and good printing.

Microsoft Bids To Buy Yahoo !

Microsoft Corporation on Monday offered to buy Yahoo Inc. for a whopping price of $44.6 billion (22.4 billion pound), in a bold bid to transform the two ailing Internet businesses into a worthy competitor for market leader Google Inc. The proposed over haul by Microsoft has been on talks since early Jan. 2006.

In what would be the biggest Internet deal since the ill-fated Time Warner-AOL merger, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer sent a letter to Yahoo's board on Thursday night to offer $31 per share in cash and in stock.

Yahoo would give Microsoft the dominance in Web banner ads used by corporate brand advertisers. It also attracts more than 600 million people monthly to sites that are devoted to news, finance and sports, and Yahoo Mail is the No. 1 consumer e-mail service till date and is expected to be for quite sometime.

Market Analysts say that the two companies have too many overlapping businesses - from instant messaging to email and advertising, as well as news, travel and finance sites - and both are weak in the Web search market, where Google dominates, and is unbeatable in a few years to come.

"They have to do it because they've tried everything they can do to fix MSN. Yahoo is the most visited site in the world, so it goes without saying that, given the current valuation, this is the perfect time for them to buy it," said a critic.

India's Embarrasing Loss

India, the T20 world champions never seemed to play like the world T20 champions. India succumbed to a low score of 74 which was too less to defend. The downfall started with the classic dismissal of Virendar Sehwag by Michael Clarke with a classic run out from backward point. India for a moment was on the verge of making the lowest total in T20, but some how scraped through to pass the total of 73, the lowest till date in T20 game by Kenya against New Zealand. To say simply, India thrashed a billion people's expectations.

India did not have Yuvi on its side who always came to India's rescue in T20 at the time of need. Nevertheless, dhoni also proved ineffective with 9(27). Only Pathan scored 26(30) to help India get to that decent score.

Australians were off to a flier with the openers Gilli and Clarke. It was a one sided contest with no fight from the Indians in all departments of the game. Clarke, the stand-in captain set an example as he led Australia to their maiden victory in T20 game against India.

How does a chameleon change it's colour ?

Chameleon is a variety of lizard which often changes its colour. This is possible because of the colour-containing cells beneath the skin. But how do these cells help it to change colour ?

The upper layer of a chameleon's skin is transparent but the layer just underneath it has cells containing red, yellow and black pigments. These pigments are granular in structure and these granulescan easily move from one point to another in it's body. The contraction and expansion of these cells containing the granules are responsible for the change in colour of a chameleon. The cells contractand expand due to several factors as described below...

First, Emotions play a role in changing it's colour. When a chameleon gets enraged or frightened,it's colour turns black. Also in a state of excitement yellow spots appear on its skin making it yellow.

Secondly, light brings a change in colour, for example when exposed to sunlight, its cells turn black dueto heat of the sun.

Thirdly, heat is also a contributory factor. when it is an a hot and dark atmosphere, its colour becomes green and at lesser temperatures in darkness, the skin becomes light yellow.

The ability to change colours by a chameleon has many adavantages like protection from enemies and in catching its prey for food.

The A61E ThinkCentre launched in India this week, has achieved the highest 'gold' status of the industry's Green Electronics Council - rating based on the energy effeciency as well as 90% recyclable parts and packaging.

Gilli announces Retirement...

Adam Gilchrist, the Australian vice-captain for the one dayer and a great Wicket Keeper has announced his retirement. The news came at the end of the third day's play between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval. He also said that he would retire from the one-day version of the game after the tri-series with India and Sri Lanka. Gilchrist has played 95 Test matches (Before Adelaide Test Match) and has scored 5556 runs with a batting average of 47.82. He holds one of the best strike rates, almost an impossible one in the test matches at an average of 81.97. He holds the wicket keeper's record for most Test dismissals. Gilchrist now has 414 dismissals(377 catches and 37 stumpings) from 96 Tests.

20 of Gilchrist's 37 stumpings have come off the bowling of Shane Warne.

However, it would be a daunting task for the next line of Australian keepers to keep up to their predecessors. Brad Haddin is tipped to succeed Gilchrist behind the stumps in the Test Cricket.

Well Wolverines are the largest land dwelling member of the weasel family (Giant Otter). The wolverine's fur is dense and does not retain mch of water which makes it very much resistant to the cold conditions. Thisproperty of it's fur makes it a hunter's attraction for making leather products out of the wolverine's fur. They look more like a small bear than an actual weasel with a long tail.
In terms of size they can grow as long as four feet and weigh as much as 40 pounds.All wolverines have two light coloured stripes along their back and carnivorous in nature, theyare known to eat plant materials too. The wolverines are extremely muscular and powerful for their size and have been known to kill and consume animals much larger than themselves.

The wolverines are found mainly in parts of northern Canada, the Arctic, Siberia, Scandinavia and also in parts of Russia.

Firefox browser is the most used and popular browser amongst Internet users. They have recently planned to launch a beta version that is reported to have search facilities and other tools that can be used even during offline.

Mozilla is testing it and has named it ‘Gran Paradiso’. This major IE rival will include the search and Bookmark option in the URL bar. Colour changing Hill ?

Ever wonder how it would seem to be when a hill could change it’s colour ? There’s one such hill known as the Ayer’s Rock. It changes its colour everyday and every season. It is 440 km south west in Australia. It is 338m high and 10km wide in base.

Normally it is red in colour, and the colour changes occur during the sunrise and sunset. During sunrise, it looks deep red in colour and during sunset it looks orangish yellow and at times looks black.

This spectacular phenomenon is possible because the Ayer’s rock is made up of sandstone. During sunreise and sunset, it looks orangish and redish because the lower wavelengths are scattered by the dust particles. It has been converted into a National Park to attract tourists.

Reliance has planned to Introduce Multi-player games along with CanvasM for mobile phones in India. CanvasM is actually a collaboration of Motorola and Tech Mahindra.

It is planning to introduce around 15 multi player games for the Reliance mobiles. Along with these games, Reliance is also planning to introduce chatting options and also facilitate advertisers to display their messages.

This will help the Reliance customers to invite other players to compete with each other, however it comes with a constraint of paying around Rs.99 /- per month to download these games to the mobile phone.

Printed bills for Mobile Users

Telecom regulator Trai on Thursday mandated all mobile phone service providers to provide a hard copy of the bill at free of cost to all its post-paid subscribers. The order would come into effect from January 24th and would be applicable across all types of tariff plans of mobile GSM and CDMA and also for fixed line services.

Trai had proposed to Telecommunication Tariff Order for the same early this month, under which a hard copy or printed copy of the bill has to be given to all postpaid customers of telecom access service at free of cost.

It said that the provision of the hard copy would enable the subscribers to understand and satisfy themselves about the genuineness of the bill, verify the charges among other things.
